Jesus followers committed to living holistically

This week I have been meditating on Luke 13. A chapter full of hot encounters and bold teachings of Jesus. All pointing to the new reality of His Kingdom come upon the earth and old paradigms and bondages broken!  The stakes are high and there is the promise of surprise.

Jesus continues to confront the false teachings, erroneous beliefs, and oppression brought on by legalistic-Pharisaical teaching.  This is as true today as it was then. Some reflections I want to share with you that are challenging me to think and live differently.

  • Jesus wants to demolishes the idea that calamity is limited to those whose sin is great - the reality is - we are all guilty and worthy of Judgement. The proper response - repent. (v 1-5)
  • Jesus stands in the gap of judgement - will we respond to the vine-dresser's care and fertilizer and bear fruit for our Maker? (v. 6-9)
  • Jesus wants to redefine Sabbath - our "religion" should be about liberation. "It was for freedom that Christ has set you free.." (v. 10-17)

and what is the Kingdom really about:

  • The Kingdom looks small and insignificant but is the real source of life
  • The Kingdom experiences mysterious and spontaneous growth
  • The Kingdom is for those with faith
  • The Kingdom is both inclusive but difficult to enter
  • The Kingdom will include and exclude the most unlikely people - many will be surprised!
  • The Kingdom is about freeing people from bondage, especially bondage from the law of man

Be blessed as you consider how these truths impact the way you live your life today.

engaging

I have been journeying with John in his engagement in fulfilling the SOIL commitment. This led me to look back at the site and notice that it has been inactive for quite some time. I assume we have all been engaged in the current calling God has placed before each one of us. For the past four years Linda and I have been engaged in starting a shelter for runaway/homeless youth in crisis: https://www.yeshelter.org/with a couple of forays to Kenya and…See More

Sarah Richardson commented on Dave Dowding's blog post Holiness as loving your neighbour
"Holiness often isn't thought of in that way these days but that is so true. In what ways am I living a life that is different from the general way of the world, a life that is separated from the 'normal' way of living?"
