Society of Intentional Lives

Jesus followers committed to living holistically

Sarah mentioned a quote that really impacted her, she wrote:

"...speaking on Freedom in Christ on Sunday (Gal 5) and just found quote " I prefer dangerous freedom to peaceful slavery" (Thomas Jefferson),  sometimes this sums up true Christian living.

Let us live in dangerous freedom rather than play it safe and be trapped in our prisons of mediocrity, comfort and keeping a safe distance. What have we got to lose? Nothing worth keeping or will ultimately last.

What have we got to gain? Everything that matters and will last for eternity!

Thanks for the reminder Sarah!

These were the images I used. The bird in the cage doesn't even really realise it is not free, that is all it's ever known. The bird on the eagle's back is where I want to be. "On Eagle's wings"

Wonderful illustration! Let's soar.
I've just been reading a bok called 'for what it's worth' by a guy called Simon Guillebaud I think he's a missionary in Brundi it's along the same lines as this discussion.

The last chapter was about total surrender and it's made me think if we really believe that god is all powerfull and that his will is best then the best place for me to be fully at his mercy and to relinquish all control to him.

Therefore I should activily look for opportunities to live by faith rather than material means. which seems just reckless and where is wisdom in this?

thoughts would be much appreciated
reminds me of lyrics to a delirious song (not a particular fav but came to mind when reading this thread)

Save me save me
From the kingdom of comfort where I am king
From my unhealthy lust of material things

Save me save me
From the kingdom of comfort where I am king
To this kingdom of heaven where you are king

Powerful words. Reminds me of a poem I wrote years ago:

Place on the horizon where the sun meets the sea,
You are the peace of one soul's longing
But to forget is royal sifting rubbish
for that which might be missed
missing that which is

But to remember is a holy, unveiled moment
River has met ocean,
dawn has broken into day
but only for the moment
until that place on the horizon, when the son is plain to see
is no longer hoped for
but eternally received

I think Simon Guillebaud was speaking at the Bristol Region Church leaders thingy in March. I listened to his talk "Radical Living" just after I spoke at Ebe on this, would have been good to listen before I spoke!! He covered so much more than I did and from personal experience!! I think the link is http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/bristol-region-church-leaders/id... March 2010 (maybe Stewart can give us the proper link!)
The big thing for me now is what does this look like in MY life as opposed to his life, the life of someone living in other circumstances or even next door, what is God asking of me today, now?

I have been journeying with John in his engagement in fulfilling the SOIL commitment. This led me to look back at the site and notice that it has been inactive for quite some time. I assume we have all been engaged in the current calling God has placed before each one of us. For the past four years Linda and I have been engaged in starting a shelter for runaway/homeless youth in crisis: https://www.yeshelter.org/with a couple of forays to Kenya and…See More

Song: End of my journey

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwSzJcBogkU&feature=youtube_gdata_playerLoved this song, gives the example of what the cross and message of Christs life. Total surrender to ego, to be resurected to live in and from spirit. Following and surrendering to Christ. To be who we are and what we have come at this time in life to do on the earth. Only through the holy spirit can that be revealed.See More

Sarah Richardson commented on Dave Dowding's blog post Holiness as loving your neighbour
"Holiness often isn't thought of in that way these days but that is so true. In what ways am I living a life that is different from the general way of the world, a life that is separated from the 'normal' way of living?"
