Jesus followers committed to living holistically
Having joined SOIL last night and reading the values and the adding of the last value, holiness, it was appropriate that my bible reading this morning was Leviticus 19 which is about being holy, because God is holy. It also seems to equate holiness with loving your neighbour and the outworking of that seems to be very practical which I think we can tend to forget and think of holiness as something more theoretical.
I think one of the strongest examples given in the passage is about not reaping to the edges of your field. The Israelites were about to go into the promised land and this would become a very practical thing that made sure that the poor and the foreigner had something to eat. As well as showing that holiness was very practical, it also shows that it wasn't just for the priests, it was for everyone and that it wasn't something that needed to be done when you are by yourself in isolation.
FYI - I got some of these thoughts from the commentary on bible.org

So true David. I am really encouraged by this post. In the message I referred from Sunday, pastor Gary used the same example you mention about not reaping to the edge of the field. God is practical and wants us to live out holiness in practical ways that are useful to world. So great to have you contributing!
Holiness often isn't thought of in that way these days but that is so true. In what ways am I living a life that is different from the general way of the world, a life that is separated from the 'normal' way of living?
